Hydration is important!

Adults know staying hydrated is imperative to staying healthy, but it’s also important that we pass this wisdom onto our children. Make sure to educate your little ones on the importance of drinking water throughout the day. You can make it a bit more exciting for young children by letting them choose their own water bottle. You can also pop a couple of ice cubes in their drink at the start of the day to ensure it stays cool until they are able to fill it up again. Don’t freeze the whole drink, as this could mean them having to wait for the ice to melt when they’re thirsty!

Keep Their Skin Protected

Nobody likes sunburn and aside from being dangerous sunburn also make you feel even more uncomfortable in hot weather. Before sending little ones to school, make sure to protect their sensitive skin with a high factor SPF. Give them a hat and sunglasses to wear outside at playtime too. Older kids should take a tube of sunscreen in their schoolbag so they can apply it before heading out for break time.

Pack Them a Personal Fan

Even a small fan can provide welcome relief on a hot day. Pack your kids a mini handheld fan, either battery or operated or traditional and let them cool themselves when it’s a little too hot in the classroom or playground.

Pack Them a Mister Bottle

A small spray bottle filled with water can be used to refresh hot skin. Pop one in your kid’s lunch bag along with an ice pack to keep their food and mist bottle cool. Let them know they can spray their faces, arms and legs with the water whenever they are feeling a little too hot.

Pop a Frozen Yoghurt in Their Lunch Bag Frozen yoghurts are healthier and melt slower than ice pops, so pop one in their lunch bag for a refreshing summer treat. Make sure you keep the yoghurt frozen with an ice pack and inside a well insulated lunchbox. Or, let the yoghurt melt slowly and by lunchtime the yoghurt should still be nice and cool.

Tie Long Hair Back

A good tip for young school children at any time of the year is to keep hair neatly tied back. When hair is up and out of the way it will help keep your little one cool.
